The Study of Vaccination Status and Measles-Specific Antibody in Measles Patients
Kim Jong-Duk

Abstract
A clinical study was performed on 169 cases of patients who were diagnosed as measles and admitted to Wonkwang University Hospital during the period of one year from May 1993 to April 1994. The patients with measles were evaluated for the presence of measles specific IgG and IgM antibody, measles vaccination status, and clinical symptoms and sign. The results were as follows: 1) The admission cases of measles were sharply increased on 1993 2) Out of 169 patients. 76 patients(45%) were vaccinated and 95 patients were unvaccinated. The age of measles patients was most commonly from 7 month-old to 24 month-old. 3) Out of vaccinated 76 measles patients, the age of vaccination was most commonly after 15 month-old.4) The measles specific IgM antibody was positive in 67 vaccinated and 86 unvaccinated measles patients, but negative in 9 vaccinated and 7 unvaccinated patients. 5) The place of measles vaccination was most commonly private clinic. In conclusion, measles was most prevalent under the 15 month-old age of children who were not vaccinated for measles. So. first measles vaccination should be recommended under the age of 15 month-old. The efficacy and practical practice of measles vaccination should be reevaluated because lots of measles patients were vaccinated about age of 15 month-old. Above 85% of patients diagnosed as a measles by the clinical diagnostic criteria were positive measle specific IgM antibody. So the clinical dhiagnostic criteria alone would be useful guide for diagnosis of the measles.
